April 30, 2025 — Global — Google is expanding the capabilities of its Google Wallet service with the addition of digital UK passport support, new U.S. state digital IDs, and the rollout of privacy-preserving age verification technology using Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP). These updates reflect Google’s ongoing push to make digital identity more accessible and secure worldwide.
UK residents can now store a digital ID pass based on their passport in Google Wallet. To add one:
Open Google Wallet
Tap Add to Wallet > ID > ID pass
Follow the guided setup process
While these digital IDs cannot yet be used at TSA checkpoints in the U.S., they are being piloted domestically. Google has partnered with the Rail Delivery Group to allow UK users to verify Railcard eligibility through railcard.co.uk using their digital ID.
Google is also working with the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to gain certification under the national Digital Identity Trust Framework. If successful, digital ID passes may soon be accepted for age-restricted purchases, such as alcohol.
Google Wallet currently supports digital ID cards from Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, and New Mexico. Upcoming additions include:
-
Arkansas
-
Montana
-
West Virginia
-
Puerto Rico
-
Previously announced: Iowa and Ohio
Soon, residents of Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, and New Mexico will be able to use their mobile IDs at Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices for streamlined services.
Google is also working with major platforms to expand digital ID functionality online, allowing users to:
-
Recover Amazon accounts
-
Access healthcare via CVS and MyChart by Epic
-
Verify identity on platforms like Uber and Bumble
A major highlight of today’s announcement is the integration of Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP) into Google Wallet. This advanced cryptographic method allows users to verify their age without revealing their identity or any other personal information.
“Given many sites and services require age verification, we wanted to develop a system that not only verifies age, but does it in a way that protects your privacy,” said Google.
This feature will be available via the Digital Credential API and will initially be implemented by apps like Bumble to verify age while maintaining anonymity. Google plans to open source this ZKP technology, encouraging adoption across other digital wallets and online services.

Finally, Google confirmed that Wallet is rolling out to 50 additional countries, expanding global access to digital passes (such as boarding passes, tickets, and loyalty cards). However, this expansion does not include tap-to-pay support in these new regions — yet.
