TOI correspondent from Washington: Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and the global leaders who see Russia as a perpetual threat seem to have accepted US President Donald Trump's Moscow-mandated terms, with talks now expected to centre on unspecified "robust security guarantees" US interlocutors have promised for Ukraine if it ends the war. They want the guarantees to be legislatively binding and conforming to Article 5 of the Nato treaty that obligates all alliance members to defend any member who is attacked, which would make Ukraine a de facto Nato member.
Trump also said he expected Putin to release over 1,000 Ukrainian prisoners soon after a trilateral meeting was set up with Zelensky. "I know there's over 1,000 prisoners, and I know they're going to release them. Maybe they're going to release them very soon, like immediately," Trump said.
After Trump held one-on-one talks with Zelensky, the two then met other leaders from Europe which included French President Emmanuel Macron and UK PM Keir Starmer.
