Wealthiest Female Performer: How rich is Taylor Swift?

Send Push
Taylor Swift has been recognised as the wealthiest female musician by Forbes , with her net worth now standing at an impressive $1.6 billion USD. This updated valuation reflects the immense success of her Eras Tour and the growing value of her music catalogue , following her attainment of billionaire status in October 2023. Her fortune is composed of nearly $600 million USD from touring and royalties, another $600 million USD from her music catalogue, and around $125 million USD in real estate.

Swift has now surpassed Rihanna , whose net worth is estimated at $1.4 billion USD, becoming the second-richest musician in the world, trailing only behind JAY-Z , who boasts a net worth of $2.5 billion USD. In April 2023, Swift was ranked 14th on Forbes' list of wealthiest celebrity billionaires, with a net worth of $1.1 billion USD.

In December 2023, Swift’s Eras Tour made history as the first tour to gross over $1 billion USD. She achieved this milestone after just 60 performances in eight months and is projected to earn another billion dollars from her 2024 tour dates.

Swift’s remarkable rise to financial prominence is also credited to her decision to release a concert film, which is now available on Disney+. Initially bypassing traditional studios and streaming platforms, she partnered directly with AMC Theatres, resulting in the highest single-day ticket sales in the theatre chain’s history.

In addition to the tour’s success, Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, debuted in April, becoming the first album on Spotify to reach 300 million streams in a single day. It also set new records for single-day Spotify streams, vinyl sales in one week, and the largest streaming week of all time.

Swift was named TIME's Person of the Year in 2023. Reflecting on her financial achievements, she noted that the growing economic success of female artists like herself and Beyoncé marks a significant shift in the traditionally patriarchal music industry, where economic power is closely tied to influence.

Another key factor in Swift’s financial growth has been her re-recording and re-releasing her earlier albums as “Taylor’s Version.” This move came after her music catalogue was acquired by music manager Scooter Braun in 2019, following his purchase of Big Machine Label Group. Swift, who had signed her first deal at just 15, expressed her frustration at the acquisition. Braun eventually sold the rights to Shamrock Capital in 2020, but Swift has since regained control of her work by re-releasing albums such as Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

As of Forbes’ 5 October update, Swift’s net worth has reached $1.6 billion USD, with $1.15 billion USD grossed in 2024 alone before taxes and fees, and pretax earnings estimated at $400 million USD.

Unlike many other celebrities, Swift’s path to billionaire status has been primarily through her music and performances. For instance, Selena Gomez, recently listed on Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, has made the majority of her fortune—approximately 81%—through her beauty brand Rare Beauty, with music playing a minimal role in her wealth. Similarly, Rihanna's $1.4 billion USD net worth is largely due to her successful cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty.
