The mother of the Georgia teen charged with fatally shooting four people at his school, has been indicted with taping her 74-year-old mother to a chair and leaving her for over a day.
Marcee Gray , 43, was indicted in Ben Hill County , which is nearly 200 miles from the location of the high school shooting .
According to a police report, Gray’s mother told authorities that Gray had taken her phone, taped her to a chair and left her bound for nearly a full day. Gray reportedly left to confront her ex-husband, who lived with their son and two other children, in Barrow County.
Two days later, Gray was arrested and later sentenced to 45 days in jail after pleading guilty to charges of criminal trespassing, using a license plate to disguise her car and causing property damage.
The charges, which include exploiting an elderly person, are not connected to the school shooting, reported AP.
Her son Colt Gray is accused of bringing an assault-style rifle to school on September 4 and opening fire during morning classes, killing two students and two teachers, and injuring nine others. He later surrendered to the police.
She had previously said that on the morning of the attack, she had called her son’s high school after receiving a text message from him saying, “I’m sorry.” In the days following the tragedy, she issued a statement defending her son, saying, “He is not a monster.”
Colin Gray , Colt’s father, has also been charged in relation to the shooting, facing involuntary manslaughter , second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. Authorities claim he provided his son with access to the rifle used in the attack.
