The visit coincides with the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, observed on the Hebrew calendar as Simchat Torah begins Monday evening. The day carries both grief and hope as Israelis prepare to welcome home the final 20 living hostages while mourning those who did not survive.

According to Hebrew media reports cited by the Times of Israel, seven hostages have already been handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross, sparking celebrations in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square.

Following his visit, President Trump is expected to travel to Egypt to co-host a regional peace summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, joined by more than 20 world leaders to discuss postwar recovery and peace efforts in the Middle East.
