Former television news anchor, Republican Kari Lake was trailing from Arizona and the senate election has not been called in yet. Democrat Rubel Gallego, an Iraq War veteran is leading with 50.4 per cent voter while Kari Lake is at 47.7 per cent. Lake is one of the most popular Republican candidates for the Senate election. Lake and the Arizona Republican Party did not hold any election night watch party.
The winner of the Senate race will replace Kyrsten Sinema. If elected, Gallego would be the first Latino US Senator from Arizona.
Ted Cruz
Republican Ted Cruz, another closely watched senator, won a third term in the US Senate from Texas. He defeated US Rep Colin Allred. This was another election that pollsters predicted wrong as Ted Cruz was predicted to "lose for sure". The race tightened in the last few weeks as Allred spent millions of dollars on TV and digital ads criticizing Cruz for his support of the state's six-week abortion ban.
Alexandria Ocazio-Cortez
Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the reelection representing the Bronx in New York but with a slightly reduced majority. AOC defeated Republican challenger Tina Forte by 123,269 to 55,580, according to an AP tally, with 96 per cent of the vote counted.
In 2020, AOC won the district with 152,661 votes to her Republican challenger's 58,440, winning by 71 per cent of the vote.
Apart from AOC, all other members of "the Squad" also won their reelection. Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts ran unopposed in her Boston-area district; and Reps. Greg Casar of Texas, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, Delia Ramirez of Illinois, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan beat their Republican opponents.
Anna Paulina Luna
Republican Anna Paulina Luna, who was the cover girl of the latest Mazum magazine won from Florida's 13th Congressional District in Punellas County defeating Democrat Whitney Fox. Luna is a US Air Force veteran.
