NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday condemned the custodial death of 29-year-old Ajithkumar in Sivaganga district, calling it an “unjustifiable mistake” and pledged strict action against those responsible.
In a video shared on his official 'X' handle, Stalin is seen speaking over the phone with the victim’s family. “I am very sorry, have asked action to be taken, serious action. Stay strong,” he told the victim's mother, offering condolences and support.
The chief minister, who reached out through his cabinet colleague K R Periakaruppan, assured Ajithkumar’s brother that immediate steps were taken. "Five police personnel have been arrested, a DSP has been suspended, and the SP has been placed on compulsory wait. We will ensure due punishment," Stalin said.
In his accompanying message, Stalin wrote, “The cruelty faced by the Tiruppuvanam youth should not happen to anyone. It’s an unjustifiable mistake. This government will ensure punishment for those who failed in their duty and will stand by the affected family.”
The incident has sparked outrage across the state, with demands for transparency and justice in custodial death cases.
