NEW DELHI: An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck Delhi-NCR on Thursday with tremors being felt in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake the epicentre was located in Jhajjar, Haryana, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The quake shook buildings and prompted residents to rush outdoors, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
A man in Gurugram, Haryana said, "...For a few seconds, it felt that the ground shook vigorously. All of us rushed out..."
A resident from Haryana's Gurugram told ANI news agency, "We were sitting here and having tea when I suddenly felt strong earthquakes. I told everyone to rush out of the building. Everyone rushed out..."
Another man from Ghaziabad in UP said,"...I had woken up just at the time when there was a jolt. I was scared. There was another earthquake just a few days ago. Delhi-NCR experiences earthquakes quite often. So, we should be mindful of safety and precautions..."
Earlier this year, on February 17, an earthquake shook the Delhi-NCR region. The quake, with a magnitude of 4.0 and a depth of 5 kilometres, struck at 5:36am, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). Strong tremors startled residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes in fear.
The NCS reported the epicentre was located 9km east of New Delhi, with coordinates at latitude 28.59°N and longitude 77.16°E. The agency posted the details on X shortly after the quake.
Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV, as per the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. This classification marks the region as a "High Damage Risk Zone," indicating a significant chance of moderate to strong earthquakes.
