AMRITSAR: Dedicated to the 555th birth anniversary of Sikhism 's first master, Guru Nanak Dev , a group of Sikhs from Malaysia has embarked on a significant journey to collect amrit (holy water) and jot (spiritual light) from Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan . They are traveling by road, spreading Baba Nanak's teachings to promote peace, spirituality, and unity.
Ramesh Singh, the first Sikh minority affairs minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, informed TOI on Sunday that there is a dire need for world peace, particularly given the current global context where many countries are at war. He stated that Baba Nanak's message of peace serves as a guiding light for nations in conflict, adding that the Pakistani government has extended all necessary support to the visiting group from Malaysia.
"The 'Light of Peace' is a clear message of moving from darkness to light, aiming to establish peace between India and Pakistan, and across the world," Ramesh said. "This jot and amrit are being sent from Pakistan to India and will travel through various countries, eventually reaching Malaysia."
Baldev Singh, leader of the Malaysian Punjabi Art and Culture Heritage Group, shared that they collected amrit from the sacred well at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, where Baba Nanak spent his last days. From there, they proceeded to Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib, where they ignited the holy jot before crossing the Indo-Pak international border at Attari on Sunday.
"We, a four-member group, are on a spiritual journey of peace, love, and unity to spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev," said Baldev. He mentioned that they would keep the amrit and jot at Gurdwara Sahib, Sentul, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the darshan of the sangat.
Baldev added that everyone is enthusiastic about the spiritual journey and eagerly awaiting the arrival of the jot and amrit to pay their respects. He noted that the Parkash Purb of Baba Nanak is celebrated with great enthusiasm across all 122 gurdwaras in Malaysia.
He further stated that not only the Pakistani government but also the Indian, Myanmar, Thai, and Malaysian governments are facilitating their spiritual journey.
