NEW DELHI: BJP on Saturday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of making "baseless and false" allegations against the election commission, claiming that the leader of opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha was venting frustration over the loss of power by targeting constitutional institutions.
BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “Rahul Gandhi, the 'perpetual youth' of Indian politics and a leader who only speaks nonsense and has degraded the post of Leader of Opposition, has been continuously demeaning all constitutional institutions. Now he is trying to vent his frustration of losing power by making unnecessary, baseless, and false allegations against the Election Commission,” Trivedi said, speaking to PTI.
Responding to Gandhi’s criticism over the Bihar special intensive review (SIR) and the reported exclusion of 65 lakh voters, Trivedi said that anyone whose name has been excluded can appeal to the election commission for inclusion, with documents.
He referred to Rahul Gandhi as “a new avatar of Goebbels” (Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels), alleging that the Congress leader relentlessly spreads misinformation and falsehoods to mislead the public.
He also questioned the INDIA bloc’s inaction, saying, “Why hasn’t any INDIA bloc BLA (booth level agent) raised complaints in the last 10 days regarding names removed from the recently published rolls? If all BLAs had verified even 4–5 names daily, the truth would have been crystal clear.”
Bengaluru claim: ‘Where’s the data?’
The BJP leader also dismissed Rahul’s allegation that 1 lakh fraudulent and duplicate voters took part in last general elections in Bengaluru Central constituency, asking, “Where did he get the number of ‘1 lakh’ people if the election commission didn’t provide the data?”
He further questioned, “why hasn’t he made the list of those 1 lakh people public? Whom has he shared the list with - media, MPs, EC, or the public?”
The BJP leader said Gandhi’s remarks reflected a pattern of undermining institutions and raising doubts without evidence.
