NEW DELHI: A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of harassing her for dowry , police said. The complainant, Alice, is reportedly the niece of Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati .
An FIR was registered against the accused under sections of both the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Dowry Prohibition Act.
"The FIR names 7 accused, including Alice's husband Vishal, her father-in-law Sripal Singh, mother-in-law Pushpa Devi, brother-in-law Bhupendra, sisters-in-law Nisha and Shivani," Hapur Police said in a statement, according to news agency ANI.
Alice has also accused them of sexual harassment and threatening her, as per the statement.
The FIR is registered at Hapurnagar police station in the Hapur district.
