NEW DELHI: West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar took a potshot at chief minister Mamata Banerjee over her gaffe, in which she claimed Bengal shared a border with Sri Lanka -- located off the southern tip of India.
In the clip Majumdar shared, Mamata is seen claiming that "Bengal is the border of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka".
Calling Mamata a "failed CM", Majumdar linked her remark to the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the cancellation of the 2016 recruitment of over 25,700 teachers and non-teaching staff for state government schools, saying the selections were tainted beyond repair.
"When the chief minister herself can’t tell where her state ends and an island nation begins, is it any wonder qualified teachers are jobless while scams thrive?" Majumdar, who is also the Union minister, said.
"According to geography expert & Failed West Bengal CM @MamataOfficial, the state now shares a border with Sri Lanka! Move over, maps—Didi’s imagination has redrawn South Asia! In Mamata’s Bengal, facts are optional, logic is missing, and incompetence is a qualification," he wrote on X.
CM Mamata is currently BJP heat from the BJP over the Murshidabad violence that killed three people. Majumdar on Monday wrote to governor CV Ananda Bose amid the cases of violence in parts of the state on the back of anti-Waqf law protests .
Expressing deep concern over the tense atmosphere in riot-hit Murshidabad, Majumdar urged the governor to intervene and ensure restoration and peace and normalcy in the affected areas.
Mamata Banerjee, however, on Wednesday, addressed the tense situation in the Murshidabad district in her meeting with Imams.
She also responded to the allegations pushed by the BJP leaders, alleging that the "Communal riot in Murshidabad was pre-planned."
