Oba Femi has other interests in mind, despite the excitement of many WWE NXT fans for him to break through into the NXT Championship scene. He's made it apparent that he wants to make his mark in the WWE annals before pursuing the championship belt. That objective might really be accomplished in a matter of weeks, as Femi is rapidly approaching a significant accomplishment: shattering the record for the NXT North American Championship, which is presently held by Wes Lee .

In a recent video shared on Instagram, Femi took a moment to reflect on his own impressive reign as NXT North American Champion, which now stands at 252 days. While reflecting on his accomplishments, Femi revealed that his eyes are now set on surpassing the record held by Wes Lee. Lee's reign, which lasted for 269 days, is just 18 days away from being eclipsed by Femi. "The point of this video is to inform you that in the next [18] days, Oba Femi will become the longest-reigning North American Champion in NXT history," Femi confidently stated. "And this is huge for us and all the Feminists out there, so I'm going to start a countdown and I'm glad you guys are here and you get to witness history."

Femi addressed his supporters, who humbly refer to themselves as the Oba Feminists, on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, further reinforcing the historic event. He invited them to join him on this thrilling countdown, telling them he was in the "home stretch" of perhaps breaking the record.

Femi has been the NXT North American Champion for 252 days. He has defeated elite opponents including Tony D'Angelo, Dragon Lee, Ivar, Duke Hudson, and Wes Lee himself. Femi has maintained his title with great success. From October 2022 to July 2023, Wes Lee created a record with great defends against talents like Tyler Bate, Nathan Frazer, and Carmelo Hayes. Femi is getting closer than ever to creating WWE history with just eighteen days left.

Why NXT North American Champion Oba Femi Aims to 'Surpass' Wes Lee

Wes Lee is scheduled to fight Oba Femi for the NXT North American Championship at WWE NXT Heatwave. There is, however, a very important caveat: should Lee lose, he will not be allowed to compete for the title again as long as Femi is the champion. With a record-breaking 269-day reign, Lee is presently the NXT North American Champion with the longest reign. Femi is aiming to change the view of their individual title runs in addition to exceeding Lee in the record books, all while keeping that legacy in mind.

"I want to, first of all, overshadow Wes Lee's run," Femi told " " when asked about his potential aspirations for the NXT Championship, currently held by Trick Williams. "Realistically, that's really what I want to do because I want to change the history books. When you mention the greatest North American Champion of all time, most people [say] 'Wes Lee, Wes Lee, Wes Lee,' and I'm trying to change that. I need to change that, and then we can talk about, if Trick still has the NXT title at that point, then we can have a conversation about that. But until then, let's eclipse Wes Lee."

On the January 9 edition of NXT, Femi defeated Dragon Lee with decisive ease to start her reign as the NXT North American Champion. He has successfully defended the championship against a number of tough opponents since winning it, including Lexis King, Joe Coffey, Ivar, and even Wes Lee. But as Wes Lee has noted, Femi never submitted to him during their prior title match, which happened at NXT Battleground as part of a triple threat match.
