Nagpur: The Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Monday declared the HSC (Class 12) results with 91.88% students passing the examination across the state, a 1.5% decline from last year's results. Vidarbha's Nagpur and Amravati continued with its disappointing performance from among the state's nine divisions.
Nagpur division, with a success rate of 90.52%, retained 8th position for the second consecutive year. Amravati fared marginally better, climbing to 5th place with 91.43%, up from 6th spot last year. Both divisions registered a drop in pass percentage — 1.6% for Nagpur and 1.57% for Amravati.
A major contributor to the overall dip in results was a 6% drop in the arts faculty success rate, according to board officials. "We've seen a sharp decline in the performance of arts stream students, which has significantly impacted the state average," said a senior board official.
Among the divisions, Konkan topped the list with a pass percentage of 96.7, followed by Kolhapur (93.6%) and Mumbai (92.9%). Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded 92.2%, slightly ahead of Amravati. Pune and Nashik both registered 91.3%. Latur, once a consistent topper, dropped to the bottom with 89.4%, displacing Mumbai from the lowest position last year.
Within the Nagpur division, Gondia district continued to lead, followed by Nagpur and Chandrapur. Gadchiroli posted the lowest pass percentage in the region at 70.58. In Amravati division, Washim retained its top spot among the five districts, followed by Buldhana (95.18%), Amravati (91.05%), Yavatmal (90.63%), and Akola (84.28%).
Distinction holders also saw a notable decline. Nagpur division recorded 3,069 fewer distinctions than last year — the lowest since 2019. Amravati saw an even steeper drop of 4,117 from 22,756 last year to 18,639 in 2025.
This year, over 14 lakh students appeared for the exams held in March, and 13.02 lakh passed. Girls outperformed boys once again, with a pass percentage of 94.6% compared to 89.5% among boys. The number of students scoring over 90% fell slightly to 8,352 from 8,782 in 2024.
The board released the results at least 20 days earlier than usual. A total of 42,388 repeater candidates appeared, with a pass rate of 37.6%. Of the 7,258 specially-abled students who registered, 6,705 (92.3%) were successful. Over 20,000 students were granted grace marks for excelling in extracurricular activities.
