Kochi: Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) stated that the Kerala Church hopes the newly elected Pope Leo XIV can lead the Church and society by realistically understanding the challenges of the time.
"As the Holy Father made it clear in his address, let the Pope be able to provide inspirational leadership to the Church in its efforts to unite the world and lead it through a path of brotherhood and peace. The Kerala Church wishes that the Pope's experience in South America as a missionary becomes beneficial in his papacy. The Pope, who visited Kerala and knows the Kerala Church closely, will always have the allegiance, prayers, and support of its people," KCBC said.
Varapuzha Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil said that simplicity and profound experiences in missionary work make the new Pope stand out. "His love for the poor and strong belief in the universal mission of the Church are reflected in his life. His visits to the Archdiocese of Verapoly are highly valued. As the head of the Archdiocese of Verapoly, all prayers and blessings are extended to Pope Leo XIV for his universal pastoral mission," Kalathiparambil said, adding that it is hoped that peace can be achieved through prayer and love.
Archbishop Kalathiparambil added that in the context of wars and other calamities across the world, Pope Leo XIV is expected to follow the steps taken by Pope Francis for world peace.
