Kochi: City police on Saturday arrested an Odisha native with two kilograms of ganja. The arrested person was identified as Raghav, 21, from Ganjam district, Odisha. The accused was arrested after a team from district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) conducted a search at Edappally-Ponekkara Meenachira Road Junction.
The accused was caught with 2.02kg of cannabis, which was intended for sale among migrant workers. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the drug and whether more individuals are involved.
Inspection was conducted under the directive of city commissioner Putta Vimalaaditya. The team was led by narcotic cell assistant commissioner KA Abdul Salam.
Raghav was handed over to Elamakkara police, who formally recorded his arrest. He was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody. Police said surveillance and inspections were increased to prevent drug peddling in the city.
