Kota central jail to house foreign women detainees

Send Push

Kota: Rajasthan govt has designated the women's correctional facility (Mahila Sudhar Grah) situated within Kota central jail premises as a new detention facility for foreign women found residing unlawfully in the state. This change means female foreign detainees, particularly those from Bangladesh, will be relocated to Kota from Ajmer, while regular female inmates from Kota will be transferred to Ajmer.

Kota central jail superintendent Rajendra Kumar said official directive on May 8 established the existing women's facility at Kota central jail as an official detention centre for foreign women in custody for unlawful residence in the state. He said while the directive doesn't explicitly mention Bangladeshi or Rohingya women, the term ‘foreign woman' primarily refers to these groups residing illegally in the state.

Currently, 33 regular female inmates are scheduled for relocation to Ajmer. TNN
