Gurgaon: A marginal rise in the minimum temperature was recorded in the city on Saturday, with the mercury settling at 25.4 degrees Celsius—three degrees above the seasonal normal and slightly higher than Friday's 25 degrees.
The day began with clear skies, but clouds hovering over the city by noon, followed by light rainfall at scattered places. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded 1mm of rainfall till 5.30pm.
With this, the maximum temperature fell to 34.1 degrees Celsius—nearly a degree lower than Friday's 34.9 degrees and seven notches below the seasonal average.
However, while the wet spell is expected to continue in isolated pockets across the state till May 15, the relief may be short-lived, IMD stated.
The weather department forecast a rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next five days, and higher humidity.
A yellow alert was also issued in several parts of Haryana, including Gurgaon, for Sunday, with warning of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
According to IMD, a western disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Rajasthan. "The system, moving through the region, is likely to intensify weather activity for a day. After that, temperatures will start rising gradually," said an IMD official.
For Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 36 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.
