In a major blow to Hezbollah and its regional ally Iran, the group's chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike. The Israeli Military claimed that it had 'eliminated' Nasrallah in a "targeted strike" on Hezbollah's underground headquarters beneath a residential building in Dahiyeh. Shortly after this, Lebanon's Hezbollah group has confirmed that its leader and one of its founding members, Nasrallah, was dead. Israeli forces named the operation in which Nasrallah was killed as 'New Order'. Nasrallah, accused of carrying out deadly attacks on Jewish targets, has been on Israel's kill list for decades. His assassination is by far the biggest and most consequential of Israel's targeted killings in years and is expected to significantly escalate the war in the Middle East.

How Israel Executed Operation 'New Order'Targeting Nasrallah, Israel on Friday launched a major strike on Hezbollah’s Beirut headquarters. Several high-rise buildings were destroyed by the air strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Visuals released by the Israeli Air Force showed buildings being reduced to rubble within seconds. “Fighter jets of Israel Air Force under the precise intelligence guidance of the intelligence wing and the defence system, attacked the central headquarters of Hezbollah, which is located underground, under a residential building in the Daha area of Beirut,” Israel said in a statement on Saturday.Israel also released video of the control room from where the senior officials monitored the entire operation. "The Chief of the General Staff commands the operation to eliminate the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, in the Israeli Air Force command center with the members of the General Staff Forum," the Israeli Air Force said. “The attack was carried out while the top brass of Hezbollah were at the headquarters and engaged in coordinating terrorist activities against the citizens of Israel,” it claimed. What Netanyahu Said On Nasrallah's Killing In his first public remarks since the killing, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel's targeting of Nasrallah was "an essential condition to achieving the goals we set." "He wasn't another terrorist. He was the terrorist," Netanyahu said about Nasrallah, as he warned Iran against trying any retaliatory strike. "There is no place in Iran or in the Middle East that Israel's long arm cannot reach. And today you know how much that is true," Netanyahu warned. The Lebanese Health Ministry said six people were killed and 91 injured in the strikes Friday that levelled six apartment buildings. Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah's Southern Front, and other commanders were also killed, the Israeli military said.
