Send Push

Mumbai: A minor has been detained by the Mumbai Police, allegedly for issuing a series of fake bomb threats to various airlines since Monday, said DCP Manish Kalwaniya. In the initial investigation, the police discovered that the fake alerts were issued using a picture (DP) of another individual, also a minor. The police learnt that there was a financial dispute between the two, which is expected to be the motive behind the false bomb threats. The Mumbai Police has launched an investigation, and carried out a probe through all possible angles. Due to the fake alerts, several flights were diverted from their destinations, including to a remote airport in Canada. “We got a complaint on October 14, wherein few social media posts mentioned bombs being planted in aircraft. The case was registered at Sahara Police Station, and the individual who made the posts was identified. “Primafacie we learnt that these posts originated from Chattisgarh. We are investigating the matter. As of now, in our investigation we have found no link between other threat posts that are into the domain,” said the DCP.

The accused has been taken into custody, and was sent to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). “What was the motive behind these posts is part of the investigation. We are not in position to comment on it yet,” added the Mumbai Police official. Which Flights were Cancelled? Those flights that received the fake bomb threats included two national and one international flights. Following this, three FIRs have been registered. “We are in touch with other airport authorities,” added the Mumbai Police. It is worth noting that there is no alert for Mumbai Airport as of now.
