A brand new documentary has dropped on Netflix, but behind the entertainment lies a horrifying real case.
The Perfect Neighbor is a new feature film based on a hair-raising murder case in Florida and killer Susan Lorincz.
Told through bodycam footage, viewers get a closer look into the horrifying details of the killing that occurred two years ago.
Netflix teases: "She would call 911, hurl racial slurs and make threats - all over children playing. A devastating crime unfolds through years of police bodycam footage."
The Perfect Neighbour documentary is based on the killing of Ajike 'AJ' Owens, who was shot and killed by her 58 year old neighbour Susan Lorincz on June 2, 2023, reports the Mirror.
The documentary explores a lengthy history of disputes between the neighbours that stretched over several years.
Additional residents alleged that Lorincz would become irritated by Owens' children playing outdoors near their property, directing racial abuse towards them.
On the fatal day, reports indicate that Owens approached Lorincz regarding an earlier incident, whereupon Lorincz fatally shot her through the door.
Lorincz's arrest was delayed whilst police examined the stand your ground law following her claims of self-defence, triggering fury within the local community.
Lorincz, who claimed the shooting was in self-defence, was subsequently arrested and charged with manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery and two counts of assault.
In November 2024, she faced the courts and was handed a 25-year prison sentence, where she remains to this day, currently serving her sentence at Homestead Correctional Institution in Homestead, Florida.
The BBC reported that Lorincz, who was inside her home when she discharged a handgun, hit the single mother of four in the chest. Despite not giving evidence in her trial, she had previously stated that she feared for her life when Owens approached her door.
The BBC reported at the time that Lorincz refuted any racial motivation behind the shooting, stating: ""I am so sorry that I took AJ's life. I never intended to kill her.
"The night I shot that gun I was confused as to why she was screaming and pounding on my door. Please accept my humble and sincere apology for this tragedy."
The case ignited discussions about the Stand your ground law, which legitimises the use of lethal force if someone believes they are under genuine threat from a violent crime.
Reports suggest that the law is currently active in over half of US states, including Florida.
