Smoke billowed into the sky after a massive fireball erupted in a residential neighbourhood of West Los Angeles, with multiple reports of an explosion causing power lines to come down near the Santa Monica Freeway.
The incident occurred at 3387 S Livonia Ave in the Castle Heights area, close to Interstate 10, which has been shut down along this stretch due to the emergency.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) provided an update on their website:
"Update Structure Fire; INC#1410; 07:41PM; 3387 S Livonia Av; ; Palms.
"While firefighters continue in the offensive mode against the out building (about 20' x 50') and the vegetation along the freeway, an explosion occurred near the building (source unknown at this time) and there are downed power lines.
"There are no injuries reported and crews continue with fire attack. Culver City Fire Dept is also sending a full structure fire response.
"Traffic on the 10 Freeway will be impacted by both smoke and emergency operations. Minimum of 'slow lane' closed on Eastbound traffic. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes between National Blvd to Palms Blvd."
A helicopter was reported to be flying overhead.
Emergency responders have been closely monitoring the situation, with LA Scanner, an X account following LA emergency radio transmissions, stating: "Didn't see this previously. But there's a large structure fire at 3387 S Livonia Ave."
Social media users also reported the severity of the incident. One user, @MRAIDANya, posted on X: "Power lines coming down also. Fire has extended to grass by the freeway unknown building extension."
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes while emergency teams continue to battle the blaze.
