Manchester Arena terrorist Hashem Abedi charged with attempted murder of prison guards

Manchester Arena terrorist Hashem Abedi has been charged with three counts of attempted murder after three prison guards were stabbed and scalded with boiling water from a kettle in an inmate attack in April.

Jihadist Abedi, 28, has now been charged with five offences following the incident at HMP Frankland in County Durham, where four prison officers were injured.

The terrifying incident which occurred on April 12, 2025, has been subject to a four-month investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, with support from Durham Constabulary and HMP Frankland.

But this afternoon the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised charges against the bomb plot monster.

These include three counts of Attempted Murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and one count of unauthorised possession in prison of a knife or offensive weapon, contrary to Section 40CA(1) and (4) of the Prison Act 1952.

Abedi, who remains in custody within the prison estate, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

He was sentenced to 55 years for helping his suicide bomber brother Salman, 22, plan the 2017 arena attack. The attack at an Ariana Grande concert led to 22 deaths and left more than 1,000 injured.
