could reportedly push to sign Bryan Mbeumo even if they complete a deal to land Matheus Cunha. It comes after Liam Delap is said to have snubbed a switch to Old Trafford in favour of joining Premier League rivals Chelsea.
United are desperate to improve Ruben Amorim's attacking options this summer. It is claimed that plans to bolster their midfield and defence are on hold until the forward line is sorted. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both struggled for goals last season, while nobody in the club's squad reached double figures in the Premier League. Several additions in the final third are expected to arrive in Manchester.
Wolves forward Cunha could become United's first summer signing. A £62.5million release clause is set to be triggered over the coming days.
According to , a successful pursuit of Cunha will not impact United's interest in Mbeumo and Delap's snub will only accelerate plans to sign the Cameroon forward. Amorim is reportedly hoping to 'accelerate' a move for the Brentford star, who scored 20 Premier League goals in 2024-25.
Mbeumo has done much of his work for Brentford from the right, cutting inside on his left foot. However, he also played in a front two with Yoan Wissa at times during the campaign. Both Cunha and Mbeumo have experience playing in a similar system to the one Amorim has adopted at United.
One man who now seems unlikely to join United is Ipswich forward Delap. According to , the 22-year-old has opted to sign for Chelsea following an excellent breakthrough campaign in the Premier League.
Delap struck 15 goals for Ipswich, scoring nearly half of their goals in the top-flight. United's failure to qualify for the Champions League is claimed to be a key factor in the former Manchester City prospect's decision not to return to the city.
Major surgery will likely be performed on Amorim's squad this summer. A dismal season ended with the Red Devils finishing 15th in the Premier League. They also lost the Europa League final against Tottenham, ending any chance of qualifying for the Champions League through the back door.
Cunha could be the first of a number of arrivals, potentially replacing several outgoing players. Asked about the possible signing of the 26-year-old, Amorim said: "You have to wait for that. It won't confirm anything. I have no news. We will see. There will be some changes."
