Dustin Johnson and his 4Aces team were left rueing a missed opportunity to clinch an eye-watering £10million prize after coming second to Cam Smith's Ripper GC at the edge-of-the-seat climax of the LIV Golf Team Championship finale.

During a pulsating finish to the 2024 LIV season, Johnson's contingent battled it out with formidable opponents including Ripper, Legion XIII, and Iron Heads. The Australian powerhouse team, Ripper GC, edged ahead with a stunning 11-under-par, relegating the 4Aces to sharing second alongside another team with an eight-under performance.

The season proved to be underwhelming for Johnson and his crew, cast in stark contrast to their previous dominance of the LIV series where they had scooped up the Team Championship in Miami two years ago.

Still, Johnson chose to dwell on the positives from the final day's action, relishing the cut-throat competition. He shared his thoughts on the intense round, stating: "I mean, it was fun. Obviously, that's what you want.

"It was close. It came down to the last couple of holes. I felt like I hit a couple of really good putts that didn't go in. But the one on 17 was -- obviously hurt a little bit because I hit a really nice putt. It hit the high-side lip rolling slow, and obviously, we were two back at that point with one to go.

"But obviously 18 is a difficult hole, and I obviously didn't hit a very good tee shot. But you knew it was going to be tough to makeup two shots on one hole."

Johnson, who remained fixated on the scoreboard as the competition reached its nail-biting conclusion, remarked: "Yeah, especially at the end we were watching because it was so close. I was definitely watching there at the end, and there were scoreboards everywhere. It was fun, though.

"That's what you want. It was really close all day. All four teams had a chance coming down the stretch. There's not really any more you can ask for."

The 4Aces Golf Club clinched the runner-up spot, securing a hefty £5.2m for the franchise. The team members collectively stand to pocket 60 per cent of this windfall, while the four stellar players will divide the remaining 40 per cent among themselves.

On the flip side, Ripper GC hit the jackpot by seizing first place, bagging an eye-watering £10.4m, from which Smith and his fellow teammates each earned a lucrative £1m.

"Yeah, it was pretty unreal," a visibly elated Smith shared about Ripper GC's triumph. "Watching the leaderboard today was pretty stressful. I almost wanted to take my eye off it, but I couldn't, I was so intrigued with what we had to do. Yeah, so proud."

He continued expressing his unwavering belief in his team's capabilities, saying: "There was something in me that was going to tell me that the boys were going to come through. The Gladiator, the last four of the five holes, is pretty unbelievable. Really cool stuff. I mean, to be a part of this is unreal, especially with these guys."
