Desperate Liberal Democrats make urgent demand as deluded Ed Davey issues Trump warning

The Liberal Democrats have vowed to stand up to " nasty, divisive politics" after he claimed victory in the 2024 US election.

Responding to Sir Ed Davey issued a warning that his win is a dark day for mankind and issued a demand for new members.

Furious Davey called on the government to urgently repair Britain's post-Brexit relationship with the European Union now that the world's largest economy and its most powerful military "will be led by a dangerous, destructive demagogue".

His comments were in stark contrast to those of the prime minister, , who congratulated adding that he "looked forward" to working together "across all areas of the special relationship".

The spoke to the President-elect on Wednesday night and "fondly recalled their meeting in September", Downing Street said.

In a bid to stand up to the newly elected US president the Liberal Democrats said in an email that they promise to "defend our values of decency, compassion and equality".

A statement reads: "I'm sure you're very worried about what Donald Trump's election will mean - for the future of the world, and for the values we all hold dear. I'm worried too.

"Liberal Democrats will stand up to Donald Trump's nasty, divisive politics and defend our values of decency, compassion and equality - at home and around the world."

Taking to X Davey said: "The next President of the United States is a man who actively undermines the rule of law, human rights, international trade, climate action and global security."

Davey accused Kemi Badenoch of "cheeleading" for US president-elect Donald Trump during PMQs.

In a tweet Dave said: "Kemi Badenoch's cheerleading of Donald Trump at PMQs shows the Conservatives are totally out of touch with our values.

"We should be standing up for human rights, the rule of law and international security - not rolling out the red carpet for Trump."

Number 10, which is seeking to build bridges with Mr Trump after his campaign filed a legal complaint about Labour activists backing rival , said Sir Keir looked forward to speaking with him in "due course".
