Corrie fans 'work out' identity of Gary Windass' mystery attacker with obvious blunder

Fans think they have figured out the truth behind Gary Windass (Mikey North) ending up on a ventilator in the hospital on Coronation Street. His absence was noted by residents of Weatherfield on Wednesday's episode as Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) celebrated his birthday without him.

The episode showed Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) and Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) becoming increasingly concerned as no one had heard from him, unknowing that he was in a coma, fighting for his life after a mysterious attack. While someone has been using his phone to pretend he's okay, concerns are still growing as no one has actually seen him around the Cobbles. While fans at home are well aware of Gary's critical condition, they have all been left asking the same thing - calling out a huge "blunder" on the ITV soap. They have noted that his next of kin should have been informed by now and have been left wondering why the hospital have not yet called Maria.

Posting to X/Twitter, one fan complained: "So Gary is in hospital but why isn't Maria contacted?? #Corrie." Another echoed: "Gary is in hospital but no one has notified his next of kin?! surely Maria is on his emergency contacts as well so why has noone contacted her either? all seems a bit off.. #coronationstreet #corrie."

One more moaned: "So Gary Windass is in hospital in a serious condition and no-one knows who he is ? Gary who has been in British Army so had his DNA Taken? Gary who had been serious criminal records so had his fingerprints taken YET Still a John Doe? Do these writers do any fact checking?"

However, spoilers revealed the mystery person, thought to be a woman, has given hospital staff a fake name for Gary, while claiming to be his next of kin so the police do not inform his real family.

Meanwhile, some fans think they have already worked out what really happened to the character, and who attacked him. There have been a number of theories swirling about on social media, as fans "unmask" the attackers and the person behind the phone messages.

One fan guessed: "So when we going to see that it was brody who hit Gary and then stole his phone and gave it to his mom who is next texting Maria as she knows Gary's password #corrie #coronationstreet."

Another noted: "I am guessing that it's not Summer & Nina that are responsible for what happened, Gary, as who was using his phone #corrie."
