viewers expressed their discontent during the latest results show, as hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced the couple leaving the competition after five weeks.

However, fans were more upset about the show's new format, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to complain. One fan wrote: "No opening number. Straight in to the results and recap. Sorry, I just don't like the new format AT ALL #Strictly."

Others echoed this sentiment, with another fan saying: "Another week of not starting with the group number can they please go back to the old format it's just odd #strictly." A third fan chimed in: "#Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing PLEASE CHANGE THE FORMAT CHALLENGE! ! ! ! ! "

The show had also faced controversy earlier in the week when Welsh star Wynne Evans and his partner Katya Jones sparked a viral clip that appeared to show Katya pushing Wynne's hand away, but she later clarified it was an inside joke.

Earlier this week, he opened up: "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day. It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

Saturday night's show ended with Jamie and Michelle and Montell and Johannes topping the leaderboard, both securing 39 points out of 40 for their Paso Doble and Couple's Choice routines.

Chris and Dianne trailed closely, earning third place with a Waltz scoring 35 points, while Alijaz and Tasha were hot on their heels with a Tango landing them in fourth, reports .

Wynne and Katyas Quickstep got them fifth place. Sadly, at the bottom end of the scale, Paul and Karen languished with a meagre 19 out of 40 points for their Samba, and Punam and Gorka's Vienesse Waltz left them in penultimate position with 21 points. Pete and Jowita, hindered by Craigs low score, came third from the bottom with their Rumba, followed by Sam and Nikitas Quickstep.
