Singapore deployed two F-15SG fighter jets on Tuesday night following a bomb threat aboard Air India Express flight AXB684, which was en route to Singapore. The plane, which had taken off from Madurai, was safely escorted to Changi Airport, where it landed without incident.
Bomb Threat Prompts Emergency Response The bomb threat was reported to Air India Express via an email, prompting immediate action from Singapore’s Defence Minister, Ng Eng Hen. He said two Singapore Air Force (RSAF) fighter jets were scrambled to escort the aircraft away from densely populated areas, ensuring the safety of those on board and on the ground. The plane landed safely at Changi Airport around 10:04 PM.
Security Checks and Investigation Upon landing, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and security teams, including Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, were activated. Thorough security checks were conducted, and no suspicious items were found on the plane. The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Singapore's Vigilant Response Ng Eng Hen praised the professionalism and dedication of the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team in responding swiftly to the threat, ensuring public safety. He expressed gratitude for their efforts to maintain security, even when faced with potential dangers.
The Singapore Police Force reiterated its commitment to handling security threats seriously, emphasizing that it will take action against those who intentionally cause public alarm.
Flight Details Flight AXB684, which departed from Madurai at 1:54 PM, was originally scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 8:50 PM. The bomb threat delayed its arrival, but thanks to the prompt response, the situation was resolved without harm.
