As excitement builds for Coldplay’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai, India, the band has announced they will retire following the release of their 12th studio album. Chris Martin revealed this during a recent conversation, highlighting the need for band members to pursue personal interests outside of their musical careers. Coldplay’s 10th album, titled Moon Music, is set to release on October 4, 2024.
In an interview with Apple Music 1, Chris Martin said, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.”
He compared their journey to that of other legendary artists, noting, “There’s only seven Harry Potters. There are only 12 ½ Beatles albums, and there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes.” Martin also shared with People magazine, “To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their life for themselves.” Although the band is retiring, Martin, along with bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, plans to continue collaborating on various projects.
Coldplay is set to perform in Mumbai in January 2025, but many fans were left disheartened when tickets for the highly anticipated shows sold out in mere minutes. Following this, tickets began appearing on the black market at inflated prices. The CEO of BookMyShow was summoned by Mumbai Police over allegations of a ticketing scam, leading to concerns that the concert might be canceled.
On September 27, BookMyShow’s CEO, Ashish Hemrajani, along with the company’s technical head, were called to appear before the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) but failed to do so. These summons were issued following a complaint regarding the sale of what were alleged to be fake tickets for the concert. The Mumbai Police have summoned Hemrajani again on September 30 as the investigation continues.
This inquiry stems from a complaint by advocate Amit Vyas, who accused the online ticketing platform of allowing scalpers and third-party websites to engage in black marketing of tickets at exorbitant prices. However, BookMyShow has previously distanced itself from scalpers, urging fans to be cautious of black market scams.
Coldplay's return to India comes after an eight-year absence, and the Grammy-winning band is known for their timeless hits, including "Yellow" and "Sky Full of Stars." They are scheduled to perform in Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at the iconic D.Y. Patil Sports Stadium. Initially planned for only two shows, a third concert was added due to overwhelming demand.
