Lucknow: Senior BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh are expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister and party chief JP Nadda tomorrow in the national capital to discuss the upcoming by-elections in the state and other organizational issues. Sources indicate that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak, and state general secretary (Organization) Dharampal Singh are likely to attend the meeting.

The discussions will primarily focus on the upcoming by-elections, as the BJP seeks to regain its winning momentum in the state. Following a setback in the recent Lok Sabha polls, where the party secured only 33 seats compared to the 62 it won in 2019, addressing these issues is crucial. The Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, won 37 seats in the same elections, while Congress, in alliance with the Samajwadi Party as part of the INDIA bloc, managed to secure six seats.

The Election Commission may soon announce dates for the by-elections to ten Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Phulpur, Khair, Ghaziabad, Majhwan, Mirapur, Milkypur, Karhal, Katehari, Kundarki, and Sisamau. The bypolls are crucial for both the BJP and the opposition parties, with the Samajwadi Party already declaring candidates for six of the ten seats and confirming its intent to contest alongside Congress.
