New weather maps have shown an arctic blast of headed for the UK in the coming days with temperatures set to drop below zero.
The new maps from WXCharts show a wall of freezing air bearing down on the UK from the north around mid-November sending temperatures plummeting into minus figures. Temperatures could be set to turn chilly in the third week of November, according to long-range predictions from the weather forecasting site.
But the month is due to start off warm, with temperatures reaching an above-average 16C at the weekend - however, this is set to change with charts showing the mercury falling to zero in on November 17. However these cold spots are likely to be isolated, the Met Office said in their long range forecast. They said: “After a settled start to November, beyond mid-month there will probably be a change towards more unsettled conditions for a time. This means an increased chance of periods of wet and windy weather for parts of the UK, perhaps more so in central and southern areas.
“However, there is low confidence whether unsettled, wetter weather or drier and more settled conditions will dominate by the end of November. Temperatures will probably be close to or above average overall, although some colder interludes are possible, especially in the north.”
In the immediate future temperatures are expected to remain high for the season with cloud cover for many areas today. Some mist and dry fog is also likely around this morning's rush hour, though only light drizzle is expected in a few areas of the UK, with dry conditions forecast in most places.
Looking further ahead into the coming week high pressure close by will continue to bring a good deal of dry but often cloudy weather with occasional drizzle, with some fog patches. Conditions should be pleasant during short-lived brighter spells.
