Top jockey Nico de Boinville rushed to hospital after suffering horror fall at Plumpton

Nico de Boinville has been rushed to hospital after suffering a fall at Plumpton. The leading jockey suffered a devastating fall at the first hurdle and required medical treatment on the track before being moved.

De Boinville was transferred to the on-course ambulance before heading off for further treatment. The jockey, who frequently races Constitution Hill, was riding race-favourite As The Fella Says in the third race of the day.

The 35-year-old, Nicky Henderson's No,1 jockey, was said to be conscious as he departed and was transported to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

De Boinville has already suffered two spills this season, while riding Constitution Hill. The previously unbeaten horse fell during March's Champion Hurdle and at Aintree's Grand National in defeat to Lossiemouth.

The jockey is due to ride Jonbon on Saturday in Sandown's Celebration Chase, and is the 8-11 favourite that race, should he make a recovery. Another high profile outing on Constitution Hill also awaits as thee pair are expected to combine at next month’s Punchestown Festival.

A much-anticipated rematch with Lossiemouth and State Man is set to take place, should Henderson once again opt for De Boinville. The trainer was emotional following Constitution Hill's fall at Aintree.

Henderson appeared tearful as he discussed the incident with Matt Chapman. "It is [heartbreaking]. To do it twice, you couldn't believe it," he said.

"He [Constitution Hill] is genuinely the best jumper you'll ever see. There is just this one per cent chance of doing what he's done, but he's done it twice.

"It does worry you, of course it does. But how can you iron it out? He'd been fantastic the whole way. There were a couple of hurdles, I haven't seen it properly at all, where he went in short.

"A year ago he'd have [gestured to going fast]. He was good and he was shortening up. That's what we were trying to get him to do. When you're three out and like that, you can't afford to do that, you've got to go."
