Both Humphries and Anderson progressed into the next round at the Mattioli Arena early this week, prevailing in thrilling clashes against Stephen Bunting and Michael Smith, respectively.

Cool Hand notably emerged from his tie upset with the crowd, having been put off by football-esque chanting, but a lot of attention was placed upon favourite Littler’s exit at the hands of Rob Cross.

Speaking after his tough clash against Smith, Anderson began: “It's not just being world champion, what has Luke won over the last two years?

"This is the thing, he has won just about everything since this last year, hasn’t he? That’s hard. He's not just world champion, he's there for a reason.

"World champion was added onto his CV, he's won so much more. And the boy gets looked over every time, which I think is a load of b******s, to be honest.

"He's deserved everything that he's worked for, everything he's got - talk to the other players [they feel the same]. Rubbish, absolute rubbish.

"Just a little respect, it's always other people. But Luke goes on you go. As long as they're talking about other people, the limelight's off of him so he can just carry on what he does. He's handling it well but deep down he must be cheesed off.”

The 29-year-old champ had previously spoken out on this issue when it became apparent that even in the wake of his World Championship final success, the focus was perhaps more on The Nuke’s loss.

"I think a lot of the fans sort of respect and understand the things I've achieved and how incredible it is," Humphries said when asked about the attention that Littler has been receiving since their clash at Alexandra Palace.

"Luke obviously is fantastic with his social media presence, all the celebrities he meets, and stuff like that. If I were 18 years old, maybe I'd feel a little bit jealous, but I'm nearly 30 now!

"Meeting celebrities, that's not the top of my list anymore. Doing things like that doesn't interest me. But for Luke, a 17-year-old, it must be amazing."
