'Best ever' film that has fans in tears finally lands on Disney Plus

A "masterpiece" film that has enchanted the hearts of generations is now available to stream on Disney Plus.

Lilo & Stitch was initially launched as an animated Disney picture back in 2002 and swiftly became a beloved choice amongst devotees. So when it was revealed that a live action adaptationwas set to be produced, anticipation certainly began to mount.

Disney unveiled its reimagining of Lilo & Stitch in 2025 which chronicles the heartwarming tale of a young and isolated Hawaiian girl who develops a connection with a runaway alien.

Helmed by Oscar nominated director Dean Fleischer Camp, the 2025 remake has now been made available on Disney Plus from today, 3rd September, reports the Express.

And devotees have hailed the picture as a "masterpiece", dubbing it Disney's "best ever" live action adaptation. One Google reviewer penned: "Lilo and Stitch is absolutely one of my all-time favorite Disney movies!

"Seriously, Disney hit a home run with this one. It's funny, engaging, and genuinely touching. There are moments that will make you cry, but it's all part of that beautiful storytelling."

They continued to say the picture "exceeds expectations" as another stated: "The movie is one of Disney's best movies for me and if you like Laughs, tears, Drama, and a blue alien, I advise you to see Lilo & Stitch live action in the Cinema."

A third remarked: "I genuinely don't understand some of the negativity surrounding the new Lilo & Stitch movie. To me, it was a 10/10 masterpiece.

"Yes, it diverges from the original, but that's what makes it so compelling. The film takes bold, creative liberties, offering a fresh perspective while still honoring the spirit of the original."

The movie has achieved a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and features Maia Kealoha as Lilo alongside Sydney Agudong as her elder sister Nani. Viewers might spot Tia Carrere portraying social worker Mrs Kekoa, as she notably provided the voice for Nani in the original cartoon.

Likewise, Jason Scott Lee appeared in the 2025 version as the Luau manager, having previously lent his voice to Nani's romantic interest David in the animated classic. Disney also enlisted Chris Sanders to reprise his role as the cherished Stitch once more.

One critic on Rotten Tomatoes commented: "I LOVED this remake! Honestly, I think this is one of the best remakes Disney has done."

Another remarked: "Super cute. Actually made me tear up a little. I have honestly not seen the cartoon version but my 8 year old says its not much like it at all."

Lilo & Stitch is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.
