Amanda Holden's husband issues plea as daughter 'does not want any connection' with her

Amanda Holden has insisted her daughters Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13, are "quite disinterested" in her showbiz career, so much so that her youngest child "does not want any connection" with The Inner Circle host, leaving the star's husband, Chris Hughes, to defend her.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, who recently opened up on chaos at home caused by her pet cats, explained that she has taught her girls to "develop a thick skin" if they want to follow in her footsteps, with Lexi having signed to Storm modelling agency.

Although Amanda feels Hollie is best suited to being in the spotlight due to her "robust" and "chatty" personality, she isn't keen on being seen with her famous mum.

Amanda told The Sun's TV Mag: "You do have to develop a thick skin and they both know that Mummy has one and that we take everything with a pinch of salt in our house.

"So I hope they’ve learnt enough from me. Because, obviously, there’s been moments around the dinner table and they’ve heard things and watched things, but they’re quite disinterested in me and my career – I get ignored!

"I picked Hollie up from her new school the other day and she does not want any connection with me. I got out of the car, she saw me and literally crossed the road.

"Chris was going: ‘Hollie, this is your mother. You should be proud of your mum!’ And she’s like: ‘Mum, please get back in the car!’ So they’re both very down to earth.”

It comes after Amanda hit back at claims Lexi is a "nepo baby", pointing out that her eldest daughter's modelling contract has "nothing to do with me being her mum".

The TV presenter previously told Radio Times: "Yes, she’s related to me, but that’s nothing to do with me. The word “nepo” can be thrown around for ever but it’s unfair it’s been used in showbiz."

Amanda explained that when she looking for her first job in her younger years, her mother helped out too. She divulged: "When I was young, I got a job in a fruit ’n’ veg shop because my mum knew the fruit ’n’ veg guy.

"If you know someone that can help your child get in somewhere, you’ll do whatever."

Amanda returns to screens tonight for a celebrity version of her brand new quiz show, The Inner Circle . The BBC show features contestants and their celebrity partners competing in a bid to win a cash prize.

Celebrities appearing in the latest episode are; Lawrence Chaney, Hannah Cockroft, Rick Edwards, Darren Harriott, Sarah Parish, and Fay Ripley.

The Celebrity Inner Circle airs tonight at 5:20pm on BBC One.
