Lucknow: In preparation for Muharram, which will be observed across Uttar Pradesh from June 27 to July 6, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna has issued detailed instructions to maintain law and order.
Officials across all districts have been directed to ensure peaceful conduct of events and remain on heightened alert throughout the period. Through a video conference with zonal ADGs, IGs, police commissioners, DIGs, SSPs, and SPs, the DGP instructed that processions will follow pre-approved routes and no new paths will be introduced without formal approval.
Police personnel have been asked to respond immediately to any signs of unrest and to strengthen presence at sensitive locations. Given the significant participation of women in Muharram gatherings, particularly during early morning and late-night events, the DGP instructed local police to deploy additional forces at sites to ensure women's safety.
Processions will be monitored with a “box formation” deployment, with uniformed personnel positioned around the crowd and senior officers overseeing the movements at the front and rear. Coordination meetings with local citizens, religious representatives, and peace committees are being held to foster mutual cooperation and strengthen community harmony.

Round-the-clock surveillance has been mandated, supported by CCTV, videography, and drone monitoring of major events.
Dog squads, and ATS teams will remain on standby throughout the observance period to respond to any emergency situation.
