A fire erupted in the five-storeyed Bata showroom located near the icon Flota Fountain in the Fort area of south Mumbai. The incident took place late on Saturday night and the blaze was extinguished in the wee hours of Sunday. The fire was majorly confined to the mezzanine floor of the showroom, where large stock of footwear were stored.
Fortunately, the store was closed when the mishap occurred and no injuries were reported.
As per the BMC, "The fire incident was reported at 10.05 pm on Saturday at Rustom building, Veer Nariman Road, Flora Fountain, Fort. The blaze was confined to the electrical wirings, cardboard boxes and footwears on the mezzanine floor of the ground plus five storeyed Bata showroom. The fire was declared Level 1 (minor)."
"The fire fighting operations started immediately by using five hose lines of six motor pumps after cutting off the BEST power supply. The fire was extinguished at 2.31 am," the officials said.
The preliminary cause of fire is said to be short circuit, however, there is no confirmation. Further investigation is underway.
