In a significant development within the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), state president Jayant Patil has dissolved the existing panel of spokespersons and office bearers, raising fresh questions about internal unity and direction within the party.
The NCP(SP), which is a key constituent of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, had 22 designated spokespersons to represent the party across electronic and print media platforms.
While no official reason was provided in the letter sent by Patil to the members concerned, a party spokesperson speculated that the move could be part of a larger restructuring effort. “Maybe the party unit is being restructured,” he said.
However, sources within the party indicated deeper issues at play. It is believed that several spokespersons failed to effectively convey the party’s stance to the media and were not assertive enough on critical issues, prompting the decision to dissolve the panel.
Tensions within the party have been simmering since its poor performance in the November 2024 Assembly elections, where it managed to win just 10 seats.
