Gurugram: A 46-year-old trainee flight attendant from West Bengal alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a hospital ward staffer at Gurugram's Medanta Hospital, while she was semi-conscious and on ventilator support.

The incident reportedly took place earlier this month while she was undergoing treatment after a near-drowning accident during a training session with a major airline. As per a report by The Times of India, a police complaint has been filed in the case and an investigation is currently underway.

Assault Took Place During Critical Care

According to the FIR registered at the Sadar police station, the woman was transferred to Medanta Hospital on April 5 after receiving initial treatment at another private facility. She had reportedly suffered a near-drowning incident during a swimming session, which was part of her flight training workshop in the city.

The alleged assault took place on April 6, when the woman was placed on ventilator support in a semi-conscious state. In her complaint, she stated that the ward staffer took advantage of her vulnerable condition. Despite two nurses being present in the room, she claimed that they didn't intervene. Due to her weakened state, she was unable to resist or cry for help.

The woman was discharged from the hospital on April 13. It was only then that she confided in her husband, who helped her file a complaint. A case has now been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of molestation.

Police Investigation Underway, Hospital Extends Support

The police have begun examining CCTV footage from the hospital and have recorded the woman’s statement before a magistrate.
