High-end fashion brands like Miu Miu, Balenciaga, and Hermes brought maximalist charms to the runway. Fashion influencers and celebrities like Anne Hathaway , Dua Lipa and Gigi Hadid have also caught up on the trend. It is inspired by the late British-French actress and singer Jane Birkin who often adorned her bags with accessories. She is famous for decorating her Hermes Birkin bag with bag charms . She believed charms made a statement that the bag had lived a life with its owner, making it a personalised accessory. This trend is thus popularly referred to as ‘Jane Birkin-fying’ your bag. Charms are also being used to decorate phone covers and watches.
A WAY TO EXPRESS PERSONAL STYLE
Laksheeta Govil, founder of a designer brand of handcrafted footwear and accessories says, “Charms add a pop of colour to the accessory and even transform it into a statement-piece. They inspire people to express their unique style statement.” Adding to this, Rishi Baweja, founder of a jewellery brand that also specialises in bag charms says, “When it comes to charms, there aren’t any real rules to be followed so the design possibilities are endless. The same goes for phone charms as well. Further, both bags and phones are items of daily use so you may as well have fun personalising them as per your mood from time to time.”
