In a late-night escalation, the Pakistan Army violated ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked small arms firing across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army said on Friday.
This is the 8th such violation from Pakistan's end since India downgraded diplomatic ties in wake of the Pahalgam massacre.
According to an official statement released by the Indian Army, the firing took place during the night of May 1–2, 2025.
The Pakistani posts targeted Indian positions across the LoC in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor sectors of the Union Territory.
The Indian Army said it responded "in a calibrated and proportionate manner" to the firing. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
This ceasefire violation comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
The ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan, reaffirmed in February 2021, had largely held until recently.
