David Warner turns 38: Celebrating the legacy of Australia's batting legend

Australian cricket legend David Warner celebrated his 38th birthday on Sunday. Warner, known for his exceptional performance as an opening batter in all formats, has a storied career filled with significant achievements and records.

Warner began his international career in January 2009, impressively scoring 89 runs off 43 balls against South Africa. Over the years, he has played various roles – from a T20 specialist to a consistent performer in Test and ODI matches. Notably, he was the first Australian cricketer in 132 years to debut without any first-class cricket experience.

In Test cricket, Warner played 112 matches, amassing 8,786 runs with an average of 44.59. He scored 26 centuries and 37 fifties, with his highest score being 335-. His ODI career includes 161 matches where he scored 6,932 runs at an average of 45.30 and a strike rate of over 97. He hit 22 centuries and 33 fifties, with 179 being his best score.

Warner is also Australia's top run-scorer in T20 Internationals, with 3,277 runs in 110 matches. He maintained a strike rate of 142.47, including one century and 28 fifties, with his top score being 100-.

Warner’s career includes participation in multiple World Cups and leagues. He has been part of teams that won the 2015 and 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, and the ICC World Test Championship 2023. In T20 leagues, especially the Indian Premier League ( IPL), Warner has been a standout performer. He played for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), scoring a total of 6,565 runs in 184 innings in the league.

Warner led SRH to an IPL title in 2016 and won the Orange Cap, given to the top run-scorer in a season, three times. He remains the only player to achieve this feat in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

With 18,995 runs across 383 games, Warner’s career has been marked by consistency and excellence. As one of the greatest all-format batsmen, he continues to be an influential figure in cricket.
