Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Indian ballistic missiles had hit Nur Khan Airbase and other locations inside Pakistan on May 10. This marks a major shift from Pakistan’s usual stance of denying Indian military action.
Speaking at a public event in Islamabad on Friday, Sharif said he was woken up at 2:30 am when Pakistan’s Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir called him on a secure line. The General told him that India had launched missile strikes on key targets, including Nur Khan Airbase.
Sharif added that the Pakistan Air Force used homegrown technology and modern gadgets on Chinese jets to respond to the attack. However, he did admit that India’s missiles had hit their targets.
Soon after Sharif's comments were reported by Geo News, BJP leader Amit Malviya reacted. He said Sharif’s admission proved the “precision and boldness” of Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people died.
Sharing a post on X, Malviya wrote, " Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif himself admits that General Asim Munir called him at 2:30 am to inform him that India had bombed Nur Khan Air Base and other locations. The Prime Minister being woken up in the middle of the night speaks volumes about the scale and precision of Operation Sindoor."
Operation Sindoor
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a strong reply to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist camps and infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen were reportedly killed in the operation.
After India’s strikes, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling and attempted drone attacks. In reply, India launched a coordinated counter-strike damaging radar stations, communication hubs, and 11 airbases across Pakistan.
Following intense back-and-forth military action, both nations agreed to halt military operations on May 10.
