After Homebound and Two Much with Kajol & Twinkle, Karan Johar has found himself in the middle of a controversy yet again. The director/producer’s friendship with Manish Malhotra has spanned over three decades with the two often collaborating for his films. Dharma films have often featured some of the designer’s most exquisite pieces.
The Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari producer’s new show on JioHotstar, Pitch To Get Rich, basically acts as the Shark Tank of the fashion industry. In it, Johar made a comment about awarding the bare minimum, to which Malhotra had a rather snarky remark.

During an episode of Pitch To Get Rich, Karan Johar explained to a pitch team that just because they work hard doesn’t mean they should be rewarded for it. Working hard is a given when wanting to achieve a goal. Without putting in those efforts, it is rare to actually get what you want.
“Everyone works hard. In this country, we overdo it. So, no points for sincerity and hard work from me, that’s basic,” Johar said on the show. He added that it was expected of people to put in effort. However, it was the designer’s reply that struck out.
As such, Manish Malhotra had a rather unexpected remark to counter with, “Karan, you never gave me credit for that either, even though I work hard day and night, especially for your films.”

Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra have been friends for a long time. That is, snarky remarks here and there don’t mean to offend either of them. Rather, they become part of their comfortable dynamic.
“I have seen your price tags; you are well-compensated for that hard work!” Karan Johar immediately responded.
Johar pointed out that the designer’s clothes weren’t cheap to buy, and while he may not give his friend credit for it, his turnover is large enough for Malhotra not to care for such ‘trivialities.’ Their friendship has surpassed the boundaries of a professional relationship into something that is more precious to both. So, while they may joke about such matters on public platforms, neither truly means any harm to the other.
