Following several days of repeated drone attacks from Pakistan, which India countered using its air defense systems, both countries have now agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, effective from 5 PM on May 10. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the agreement on Saturday. Both nations are set to resume talks on May 12.

"Pakistan's DGMO contacted the Indian DGMO at 3:35 PM today, and it was agreed that both sides would cease all firing and military action—on land, air, and sea—from 5 PM IST," Misri stated.

"Instructions to implement this understanding have been issued, and both sides will talk again on May 12 at 12 PM."

Donald Trump tweets about India-Pakistan ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and announced: "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Indian's not happy

However, under Trump's tweet, many Indians posted that they were unhappy with this decision. Some even stated that India should not take this seriously as Pakistan could violate the ceasefire anytime.

One said, "India should not listen to Trump & finish what we started with Pakistan because they'll again show their true colours by sponsoring terrørism in India in few days time".

Another said, "Pakistan will not hold the ceasefire. They will violate it again and again".

One wrote, "So, Pakistan is going to stop engaging in terrorism now?"

Another wrote, "If Pakistan attacks again, India will retaliate is silent in this".

More about the ceasefire

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that the ceasefire agreement was the result of direct coordination between India and Pakistan.

"India and Pakistan have reached an understanding today to halt all firing and military operations. India has always maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and will continue to uphold that position," he stated.
