Part Time PhD: Relief news has come from the higher education sector of Madhya Pradesh for the employed youth and professionals interested in research. Implementing the National Education Policy 2020, many prestigious institutions of the state have started part-time PhD programs. It aims to make research more flexible, practical, and career-friendly. Now it has become possible to do a PhD for those who earlier could not do regular research work due to their work or family responsibilities. The biggest thing is that now students are also getting freedom from the compulsion of traditional coursework.
Which institutions have started it?
These major institutions of Madhya Pradesh have started part-time PhD from 2025:
Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV)
Indian Institute of Information Technology (Triple IT)
National Law Institute University (NLIU)
Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT)
Forensic University
Now in these institutions, teachers, engineers, scientists, IT professionals, and people from other fields will also be able to do research work along with their workplace.
Digital research initiative in Triple IT
Triple IT has started the facility of part-time PhD in subjects like Computer Science, IT, Electronics, Mathematics, and Physics. The special thing is that students will also get the option of online platforms like NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) for coursework. NPTEL, which is a prestigious e-learning platform run by IITs and IISc, will now provide coursework options for part-time PhD students. Through this, students will be able to acquire the necessary knowledge online without taking college classes.
New admission system also implemented
The previously implemented PhD Ordinance 2017 has been amended and now Ordinance 2022 has been implemented. This has made the admission process more transparent and clear. Students will now get more clarity at the time of admission and during research.
What do the institute officials say?
Dr. Ajay Srivastava, Placement Officer of Triple IT, said that we want education to no longer be limited to the classroom. NEP and digital platforms have made it possible for students to pursue research while working. While Rajesh Bhargava, deputy registrar, RGPV, said, the revised ordinance and part-time options will make research more accessible to students.
