The government is going to focus on skill-based studies in Delhi's government schools from this academic session. The department has issued a circular that now pre-vocational education program will be started in schools.

Now in Delhi's government schools, children will be taught skills along with studies. Due to which the children will become skilled and shine. The Directorate of Education, Delhi, has announced that, according to the National Education Policy, a pre-vocational education program will be started for students of classes 6 to 8 in government schools of Delhi in the academic year 2025-26.

The Directorate of Education, Delhi has announced that according to the National Education Policy, a pre-vocational education program will be started for students of classes 6 to 8 in government schools of Delhi in the academic year 2025-26. According to a circular issued by the Vocational Education Branch of the Directorate of Education, 'Kaushal Bodh' will be introduced as a separate subject for class 6 in the first phase, followed by classes 7 and 8 in the coming years.

Work will be done on three categories

The initiative aims to prepare students with necessary life skills and vocational awareness to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the real world. The curriculum is aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and is based on three categories of work - work with life, work with machines and materials, and work in human service. It states that students are expected to complete 3 projects every year, one from each of the three categories.

What will be taught?

The programme will teach activities such as organic farming, pottery, carpentry, millet cooking, embroidery and basic electrical work. Teachers will guide students in working safely, collaborating in groups and applying their learning in practical situations.

The circular states that each student will be evaluated on the basis of written exams, oral presentation, activity book, portfolio and teacher observation. Also, a total of 110 hours will be given every year for these activities.
