Liverpool boss Arne Slot says 'people want to make stories' after rare loss

Arne Slot is refusing to go overboard after Liverpool lost just their second game of the season. The Reds were beaten at , who scored all three of their goals in a 14-minute first-half period.

The defeat in west London was the first away reverse for the Reds this term and Slot admits that the manner of the goals were self inflicted, but maintained that a number of clubs struggle to deal with Fulham's threats despite the narrative around his side.

He told : "That was a difficult spell of 14 minutes [three goals conceded]. Apart from [Fulham's] quality and finishing, it was mostly to do with our errors. In general we are not making many of these errors - let alone three in one game. Our second half performance was so much better but it is hard to win a game at this level if you concede three in the first half.

"Unfortunately we lacked time in the end to score a third. People want to make stories which is their job. Many teams find it difficult to play Fulham. The second half performance was outstanding. We had chances but in the end we lacked time."

Alexis Mac Allister had opened the scoring for Liverpool and Luis Diaz scored with twenty minutes remaining to set up a grandstand finish, but the Reds couldn't find the equaliser they had been looking for.

Slot confessed that the errors in the first-half, made by the likes of Andy Robertson, were not "the standard". He said: "Conceding three goals like we did is not of the standards of Liverpool. We were creating chance after chance after chance [towards the end]. In the end we lacked time to make up for the three mistakes we made in the first half."

Arsenal had drawn at 24 hours prior to Fulham's loss at Liverpool with the Reds getting the chance to atone for their loss with a game against . Despite their mammoth lead at the top of the table Slot has maintained that the Merseysiders still have work to do.

He said: “There’s no reason for us to be complacent, we are not No 1 at the moment because we win every match by three or four goals. It takes us so much hard work to win the games, and everyone can see that. We are fully aware of the fact we have to compete for seven more games."
