Lewis Hamilton declares 'there is no way' as George Russell 'super happy' at Mexico GP

Lewis Hamilton and had contrasting emotions after finishing qualifying at the .

Ferrari's will start the race on pole, followed by , and . Russell and will line up in fifth and sixth respectively and face a stiff fight to secure a podium finish.

And Hamilton is not feeling confident heading into the race, admitting: "The car felt good in P3 and I didn't change anything qualifying, it just completely turned on its head. Definitely a frustrating qualifying session, but that's every session I've had this year."

Hamilton also ruled out a repeat of his impressive performance at last year's Mexican Grand Prix, where he managed to finish second after starting the race in sixth. "There's no way we're going to be doing that this weekend with the car that we have," he admitted.

"Maybe George is more comfortable on the older package, I don't know. We'll see, we'll get good readings of which is best for the future." And Russell insisted he was "super happy" to finish fifth in qualifying, having been involved in a on Friday.

"A different one [car] to yesterday because that one was broken," he said. "I'm really happy with the recovery, obviously we're still on the old bits from 12 races ago. My lap felt really, really strong and I'm super happy with.

"Just a tenth from P3 and after yesterday we'd have taken that. I'm not too sure what it means for tomorrow, obviously you've got Checo and Piastri out of position. P5 is probably the most we could have hoped for.

"The three teams in front have got a bit of a battle on their hands, so maybe the race will come towards us." In a separate interview with , Russell described his final qualifying lap as one of his "best of the season".

He explained: "It was really close with Lewis and I the whole session, I don't know what happened with him at the end. My lap I was really happy with, I think it was one of my best of the season.

"At the end of the day I was still half a second or so from pole position but we know from one session to the next, if you take yesterday as an example, I was quickest in FP1 and the two laps I did in FP2 we were P10. So, it's not just down to the upgrades."
